Unowane is a popular festival observed by many grifajes throughout the Galaxy. It celebrates the last rains before winter, hence the name meaning "cold rains" or "latter rains" in Igarin.

Igarin Unowane[]

In the Igarin Empire and other free Igarin nations, Unowane honours the rains that water the crops and jungles. It is held on Autumn 4's 23rd day, and it is celebrated with banging pots and boat races.

Nandegakkovian Unowane[]

In Nandegakko, Unowane is the biggest festival, largely adapted from Resparin equivalents. In Resparin culture, Unowane worships the rain god Lónköi, and it is celebrated on the 23rd day of the month of Rĩsdol (December), 14 days after Yule.

The cities of Nandegakko, even atheist ones, celebrate the festival with lavish parades of ancestors and heroes. Other traditions include building ships from scrap metal and released to make wishes, dancing with pots and pans, and a lot of water.

Unowane is also the very festival that became a controversy in Nandegakko, when a human governor during Igarin rule tried to ban it and other Nandegakkovian traditions, angering the atheist locals. They prevailed and banished him back to his homeworld.

Malendor Unowane[]

Unowane is a public holiday in many Malendor colonies and members. It is on the 10th of Oltokrai, the eleventh month of the 13-month Malendor calendar.

Trivia[]

  • The attack on Unowane and the Nandegakkovians' defence of the festival is a mockery of the alleged "War on Christmas": instead of religious people, the targets of the ban on Unowane (equivalent to Christmas) are atheists who love the festival a lot.
